The so-called independent judicial body known as the Parole Board is guilty of violating the human rights of prisoners. This kangaroo Court sits behind closed doors, in secret, and fails to treat the cases before them on a case by case basis. The Parole Board is wrong to take into account the rabid headlines and editorials of the Sun in its deliberations. Now prisoners who should have been released are added to the overcrowded prison population. The Parole Board labours under the mistaken belief that its knee-jerk response to a couple of high profile cases in the media is somehow serving the public interests. However, these couple of cases have nothing whatsoever to do with the Parole Board's duty to release prisoners on parole. There is no way that every prisoner who is released is not going to reoffend. The odds are that some will reoffend. The vast majority of lifers do not reoffend. They are a safe bet for release. And yet, the Parole Board has cut the number being released by half. This cannot be justified. It is arguable that the Parole Board is subjecting prisoners to periods of unlawful imprisonment.
