ReplyDeleteJohn - don't you think this a little bit too much in bad taste?
ReplyDeleteMy father is one of the people in your picture and I looked at the paul uppal blog a few days ago when everything was going off.
Having read the comments I can understand why they were deleted. There were posts concerning this picture saying that paul looked like a peasant because he was wearing the turban incorrectly. It isn't a turban, it is a headscarf that is given as a gift from the temple. Rob Marris also has one from when he visited. Another comment saying that someone would like to meet paul as he "fancied a curry on saturday night" has turned many of the most influential Sikhs against the labour party - up until a few days ago, the men in this picture called Rob Marris their friend and even had regular drinks with him in the chindit pub!
It seems obvious to me that paul has not personally deleted all of the comments. Also, having met him, and assume you haven't, he is far from a "p****". The reason people take to him is that he is personable, likeable and a good listener. A lot like Rob Marris, who I have also met a few times!
The people in this photograph were cordial and hospitable to paul and francis. There is no benefit to the labour party or lib dems in an anti-conservative blogger calling the people in this photograph "suspects".
Please reconsider this post as the Sikh elders do feel quite put out by your actions.
The people who posted the horrible things on pauls site about paul and some of his friends are damaging the labour party and not the conservatives.

anonymous: No. It's close to the knuckle. I'm a hard hitter.
ReplyDeleteIs he really? Does that make you feel proud?
I think he looks rather smug.
Thank you for the information regarding what he is wearing on his head in the photo. I can't say that I really took much notice of his head gear. I can't say that I have heard of Rob Marris. What's wrong with inviting someone out for a meal on a Friday night? I haven't met him, but from your description I think I would see things from a different angle. Who's the anti-conservative blogger you refer to?
I will consider your request.
Because I haven't seen the comments and cannot comment on whether they were horrible or not. I wouldn't know the influence upon political parties.
P.S. Just checked the post. Where do I say that those in the photograph are suspects? Singular. It only refers to one suspect.
ReplyDeleteJag,
ReplyDeleteI know John to a certain extent and one thing I can say without a shred of a doubt is that he has a similar sense of humour to me. I put things on my own blog which some would class as "rag order" but I think you will find that in this case it is not the Sikhs who are in the firing line here but the chap in the headscarf. Admittedly, it was presented to him by the Temple but this is not the issue here. This is a humourous post, and I do know that Sikh people have an undying sense of humour. I have, myself been on the receiving end of Sikh hospitality (you cannot better Sikh food) on quite a few occasions. I have found them to be equal, if not better hosts than my native Polish people. I have the utmost respect for both nations.
My dear ol' daddy (the Polska git, I love 'im!) actually did his military service alongside Sikhs, Ukranians and the like. What one has to remember is that these old boys also have a sense of humour. You have to, otherwise life can grind you down. What often happens though is that the language/humour barrier breaks down and conflicts break out. Shit, my dad spent half his life in Siberia fer fox sake. Freezing his nuts off. Its a wonder I am here full stop!
