Tory Tosser - John Hayes MP misses the boat
Well, I went along to do the interview for BBC 1 Look North. I was puzzled why the TV producer had said that "It's reared its head again". I had not expected the media circus to come to town until closer to May 3rd local elections. The TV presenter Peter Levy asked John Hayes MP what had galvanized him into action. He replied that two or three of his constituents had written to him to complain about the consultation process for prisoners being allowed the vote. They felt that prisoners should not be allowed the vote. Peter Levy stated that John Hayes intends to stop the European Court of Human Rights deciding the matter. It was not explained how he intends to do this, just as well, given that the Chamber delivered its judgment on 30th March 2004. The UK appealed to the Grand Chamber which delivered its judgment on 6th October 2005. The Department for Constitutional Affairs began its consultation process on 12th December 2006, and submissions deadline was 7th March 2007.
I was sorely tempted to answer John Hayes' question with "What consultation process?", but I played along to allow him his 15 minutes of fame. It is not clear just when his constituents wrote to him and asked him to get involved. However, it does show extreme incompetence when John Hayes failed to research the subject if he is going to talk on the topic. Perhaps, someone should inform him that he has missed the boat by something like, at least, six weeks? What a plonker!

ReplyDeleteThis would be an illegal action.
Lock him up! With no vote!
ReplyDeleteRon: He couldn't do it anyway, he does not have the power.
ReplyDeleteChris: I don't believe anybody should be locked up for incompetence. And, if that lot from the cash for honours scandal got locked up I would still fight for their human right to vote.
I think that chris paul meant that I should be locked up. Funny, that's what Mary said!
