What price justice?

Let us hope that the unelected Charles Falconer, the present Lord Chancellor, who is set to become the newly appointed Secretary of Justice at the newly created Ministry of Justice, tomorrow, is merely the caretaker until the government appoint a more responsible person who will not only be accountable to Parliament but also to the electorate?

When I go shopping, it is useful that the products on display have a price tag. Imagine if this was not the case, and you filled up your shopping basket, and then got to the check out only to discover that everything is far more expensive than you had anticipated? So it is with the indeterminate sentences. They appear to be rising above the rate of inflation. There is something not quite right about either committing a crime or not as the case may be, and ending up in jail, and only then does the Parole Board put a price on justice. This sentencing behind closed doors should be sending a shiver down the collective spine of the nation. Instead, it appears that there are more important questions to ask. Like, do you take milk and sugar in your cup of tea?
