Speaker Michael Martin cuts MPs expenses
Given that MPs are supposed to be accountable to Parliament and ultimately the electorate, it is not good enough for Micael Martin simply to cut MPs expenses from £250 without the need to provide any receipts. Whatever magical figure he plucks out of the air, given the displayed untrustworthiness of MPS you can bet your bottom dollar that they will continue to claim the maximum amount because its there for the taking. Moreover, they will come up with some other fiddle to recoup their losses. Therefore, nothing less than a requirement to provide a receipt for every penny claimed will suffice. Furthermore, any other claims should have to be justified.
