Bamber told he will die in prison

Bamber told he will die in prison

A killer convicted of murdering five members of his family has been told he will die in jail.

Jeremy Bamber, who killed his victims in 1985, had his "whole-life" tariff sentence reviewed at the High Court.

Mr Justice Tugendhat ruled the murders were so "exceptionally serious" that Bamber should never be freed.

Family members of those who died heard the judge tell Bamber: "You ought to spend the whole of the rest of your life in prison, and I so order
".

  1. He went to my school.

So did WH Auden and either Burgess or McClaine, of spy fame.

My school turned out nutters and traitors it seems!

John, is Mr Bamber still pleading innocence?

  4. I think I am the only (in)famous person to go to my school.

I understand Bamber is still pleading his innocence. However, I have not heard or seen anything to support his claim.

  6. A number of people believe he was innocent. Personally, I know little about the case and haven't a clue...

The odd thing is, that this chap is probably not a threat to society, it was his immediate family that his brain went mad on.

Bamber Gasgoine deserves to spend the rest of his life in prison because he murdered all those poor Cambridge students on his BBC quiz program. He has NEVER been held to answer for all those young lives that he took in the name of "keeping the quiz show alive"

People like him should be taken away and fried in a huge vat of used waste fish and chip oil and the contents served to asians living in Birmingham. BUT will the government do it? BY FECK THEY WONT because they haven't got the guts!

  12. My college got banned from 'University Challenge' for 3 years after amazingly bad behaviour (not all of which could be edited out).

Bamber was not a happy bunny.

  13. Gascoigne I mean. Billy Connoly had a routine about how his name sounds like a disease - 'He's down with the Bamber - right in the Gascoignes...'

    I lie down now...

I must confess bamber gascoigne was my first thought!

However, john, living as i do in a country where technically no-one can spend more than 20 years inside for any one crime, I question this concept of natural life. I can see three justifications for deprivation of freedom (not to say I agree with them) and they are: Vengeance for the victim, Punishment for the perpetrator, Reform for the wrongdoer, and Protection for the public.

If the last was the case then probably capital punishment would be sufficient but we aren't savages, are we? I like to think the third is the case. The first being, to my mind, irrelevant, revenge being opposed to any sort of modern justice. And, the second linked to the third. Therefore, why natural life? It merely shows a failure of the system to serve its purpose. And, plays into the hand of the capital punishment lobby.

Whatever happened to the expression "correctional facility" Isn't that what prisons were once supposed to be?

Sorry, that's four, not three. I correct myself.
