A mixture of law, politics, autobiography and humour. Once described as "The Devilish Advocate"
(Guardian), I do have the ability to provoke a response. Sometimes it comes from someone who uses a thought process, and sometimes from jerks usually associated with the knee.

Guardian: Prison special
Guardian: Prison special
Today the Guardian is running a Prisons special. Well worth a read. It's about time there was some positive media coverage given all the crap that was flying about last week about cushy prisons.
That was really interesting - thanks so much for posting. While I agree with the need for additional mental health services, education, and other programming, I was most interested in reading "Inside Job," about the audiovisual media training that some inmates have received. You could see in the article that being able to be successful at something like that, learning something new, really gave the inmates a sense of achievement and the possibility of doing something more with their lives.
James: Rehabilitation is real. It just needs the prisoner wanting and the drive to change, and the authorities to provide the necessary assistance. I don't think it is so much a particular type who can, there is doubt that paedophiles can change.

ReplyDeleteHi
It was a relief to read a whole lot of positive stuff in one go like that, I made a pig of myself.
The thing about Inside Job is that anything which allows a prisoner to break the cycle of offending has to be a good thing.
I noticed you have linked to me on your blog and I will put yours on my blogroll.
How real is rehabilitation and is there a particular type who can?
