Prison reformers condemn new 'Titan' jails as a 'gigantic mistake'
Prison reformers condemn new 'Titan' jails as a 'gigantic mistake'
If this was a listening government, instead of having a consultation process which just goes through the motions because a decision has already been reached to go ahead with Titan Prisons, perhaps we could avoid a Titanic mistake. It was because I was in a smaller, more manageable unit, that reform was allowed to take place. Human warehouses are not the answer. These just lead to bigger problems. I urge the government to have a rethink and scrap this idea before it is too late. An Alcatraz-style prison was a bad idea in the 1960s, its still a bad idea today.
John,
ReplyDeleteIt's highly profitable privatization of the Prison Service.
Exactly the same is happening in care of Britain's elderly. Excellent, smaller homes run by British carers are being replaced by 80 bedded Institutions with zilch communication. Highly qualified British Social Services carers are being ousted in favour of cheap, untrained immigrants.
I took issue - relatives and residents concerns with poor care/language barriers are totally ignored by the profit making privateers.
Same rules will, undoubtedly, apply to prisoners and their representatives.
I quite agree with you anon 4:09 that this is a step to help the company that will be awarded the Prison Service when it is finally privatized.
ReplyDeleteSo just wait to see which boardroom table Mr. Straw ends up sitting at.
barnacle bill,
ReplyDeleteExactly ... Blair's been offered a job with JP Morgan (bankers).
The body overseeing elderly care rules and regulations is CSCI - Government. One rule, having no-one to talk to, the case with immigrant carer/language barriers, is listed as 'abuse' (neglect). All complaints are ignored.
I expect inmates will find themselves in the same situation with Government 'overseers' where
valid complaints are concerned.
barnacle bill,
ReplyDeleteIt sounds as if it's already been privatized. As with elderly care 'sell out', it'll be kept in the dark.
