Black President Barack Obama says it's alright to torture a black British man claims David Miliband
And UK judges have given the green light to suppress the evidence of torture thereby allowing Honky Obama to continue the Bush regime.
UK judges accuse Obama Administration of suppressing torture claim
The Lord Justice Thomas and Mr Justice Lloyd Jones decision is a national disgrace. They have allowed hearsay evidence to overturn the rule of law. This is a breach of Mr Binyam Mohammed's human rights. Since when has "I am saying, that they are saying" been acceptable as evidence in a court of law? These two judges have suppressed evidence which the defence holds and which the claimant is entitled to by law.
Margaret Thatcher has said, that in the UK we do not give into terrorist threats. How times have changed. It needs to be established whether David Miliband is lying, or the terrorist threat from President Obahama is genuine.
My Lords, perhaps you need to clarify this statement and show in what way “the public of the United Kingdom would be put at risk”. All I can see is that this withholding of evidence has put the UK at risk of being ridiculed throughout the rest of Europe and the world. Save for America, which has become a terrorist state.
Richard Ford and Francis Elliott have been writing on legal issues for long enough to know that the judgment of a court and the judgement of the Foreign Secretary are spelled differently for a reason.
Some of the comments beneath the article are sickening to read.
Lets have another Ealing Comedy and name the film Carry On Torturing US, UK is right behind you!
Whilst I would like to see more backbone/independence by our judges, I do feel the government should be the ones facing our anger.
ReplyDeleteI was reading the comments over on Mr. Fawkes site concerning this, it is very worrying that a lot of them do not get it with regard to whether Mr. Binyam Mohamed is a British resident/subject or whatever, and the use of torture on someone.
The best comment I saw was from a Dutch vampire hunter -
To all you trolls and deniers out there.
You have seen your Govt.
embark on Illegal wars,
extrordinary rendition,
extradition of British Subjects
attempted introduction of 42 days
covert survellance of the entire population,
the end of double jeopardy rules,
the attempted censure of the internet,
start to introduce ID cards
and now implicated in torture.
Maybe that's what you want, but who's to say you wont be the next victim.
Is it worth the gamble?
What does Obama's skin colour or the detainee's skin colour have to do with any of this? When people were executed in America on Bush's orders, would you have written 'White President says it's ok to execute white man'?
ReplyDeleteAnd it'll be a while before Obama clears up Bush's mess. And perhaps the Brits should stop kow towing to America so much and actually stand up for their own citizens.

ReplyDelete"What does Obama's skin colour or the detainee's skin colour have to do with any of this?".
Nothing whatsoever. I refer you to the text in the heading on my blog:
"I do have the ability to provoke a response".
No, I would not have used the headline you suggest in relation to Bush. Simply, because it would not have the same ring to it. Much has been made and written about Barack Obama being the first black President. It's made history in America. It gave me a hook to hang my coat on. Nothing more and nothing less. I have also condemn Bush for doing exactly the same. What has happened is controversial. I see nothing wrong in adding to that controversy to get a point across. If you have been offended, I apologise, however, I suspect that you were only seeking some justification. If that is the case, I hope you have got it.
"And it'll be a while before Obama clears up Bush's mess. And perhaps the Brits should stop kow towing to America so much and actually stand up for their own citizens".
I agree with both of your points. In relation to the first, I feel it would have helped had this case not prevented him from having a clean break from the Bush regime. As for your second point, we are still but an aircraft carrier for American bombers and flights of extra-ordinary rendition.
