Jack Straw. take a lesson from the meaning from whence his family name came from. "Man of Straw" a puppet; one who is controlled by others; also, one who is not responsible pecuniarily. an effigy formed by stuffing the garments of a man with straw; hence, a fictitious person; an irresponsible person; a puppet.
In olden days this type of chap was seen hanging around a court of law with a piece of straw hanging out of his shoe. This meant that his services could be bought as a potential "witness" to anybody that needed such in an ongoing dispute which they had. In other words the man of straw could be "bought" for a small price.
