Ex-landlord jailed over smoking ban at Bolton pubs
A former pub landlord who is thought to be the first person in the UK to be jailed after flouting the smoking ban is "devastated", his wife says.
Nick Hogan, 43, from Chorley, was sentenced to six months in prison for failing to pay fines for smoking ban breaches at his two Bolton pubs.
Hogan was found guilty of breaching the smoking ban in January 2008 at the Swan and the Barristers pubs he ran.
His wife Denise said the couple "never expected" he would be imprisoned.
The original hearing was told that on the day the ban came into force he organised a "mass light-up" in the two pubs.
He was fined £3,000 and ordered to pay £7,136 in costs.
And there was me thinking we only jailed those who need to be imprisoned for public safety?
I imagine this will get discussed over a fag and a pint in the bars around the HoC.
ReplyDeleteThe two-faced bastards!
I was expecting something like this soon or later, sorry to say, in the UK.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like that in the UK people and especially paedos can get "free scott" (with a blessing even) after traficking/abusing children, while others who "disappear" their kid are not properly investigated but those who defend human rights or smoke a fag are jailed and silenced.
What a pathetic authoritarian and fascist country this place has become!I"ll put it on my list of places to avoid at all costs.
it was scott free really....jeje.. but surely even with my poor english,I make myself understood.
ReplyDeleteBig Brother had to jail him just to prove that the state is all powerful and the will of the people means nothing. SO next time these bastards start bleating and whining about "don't vote for the fascist BNP" please somebody REMIND them just WHO the real fascists are.
