UK must give prisoners the right to vote in next general election, says Europe
THE forthcoming general election will be in breach of human rights unless the government gives prisoners the vote, Europe's human rights watchdog warned last night.
The declaration from the Council of Europe's committee of ministers comes six years after judges ruled that the UK's total ban on votes for prisoners is illegal.
But the ban is still in place and pressure is mounting for it to be repealed in line
with the Human Rights Court judgment.

Ah yes but will it happen?
ReplyDeletePromising developments. Lots of chatter. The prospect of a big fine is a concentrator of minds. Dismaying insights into the Brit mindset to be got from reactions of the public.
ReplyDeleteWON'T happen in KGB Britain. If the European court acts on it, British government will appeal. If the appeal is not won, they will appeal again. They will appeal at least five times before they find some greasy oik in the EU parliament to pass their appeal.
ReplyDeleteIts happened before and it will happen again.
