Men 'locked up' illegal immigrants at Hampshire laundry

Two men employed 23 illegal Chinese immigrants at a laundry in Hampshire where they kept them locked up in dirty and cramped conditions, a court heard.

Man Kung Wong, 45, from Portsmouth and Qing Wu, 42, from Sandhurst, Berkshire, are accused of taking the immigrants on at Universal Chinese Laundry in Alton.

They were kept in a hidden block with no natural light before the authorities found them in 2008, it was heard.

Mr Wong and Mr Wu deny the charges that they knew about their illegal status.
