UKIP is clearly wrong!

UKIP is clearly wrong!

"It has never been clearer that Act places the rights of criminals above the rights of victims and law-abiding members of the public. Yet despite the evidence staring them in the face, Tory policy makers have dropped their plans to scrap the misguided law in their desperate attempts to cosy up to the Lib Dems".

It is totally unacceptable that UKIP's Justice spokesman, Gerard Batten MEP, is ignorant of international and European law on human rights.

It has never been clearer that the European Convention of Human Rights, incorporated into the Human Rights Act 1998, is all about protecting the individual's rights against abuse by the State. It was not designed to be a balancing act between competing rights within a society.

If UKIP cannot understand all this, it is time UKIP threw in the towel on politics. They are either ignorant fools, or corrupt idiots!

  1. Unacceptable to whom? You?
Ok so it is unacceptable to you, fine.

Law does not exist on some plane above the poeple upon who it acts. It is rooted in places and spaces.
Whilst I agree that the purpose of much law is to defend us from the activities of the overweening state, it stills needs to be tempred by justice and what the commonweal will stand and accept. If law sets itself against the people upon which it applied then in brings itself - sadly all of it into disrepute.

The HRA by brining the ECHR into British Law has upset the traditional balance of the Common Law, and thus we have these conflicts.

You may call us ignorant, you may call us fools, you may indeed call us idiots. All that is fair comment (though of course I disagree).

However you step into a different zone of meaning when you describe us as corrupt.

    Evidence please John.

  2. It is unacceptable that a Justice spokesman is ignorant about justice. The post requires knowledge of the subject. Otherwise a plantpot may as well fill the space.

It is not the law, but the media and corrupt politicians who twist the issue to suit their own ends.

Before you start spouting off about the effect of the HRA and the Common law (and European law) I suggest you read this...

Common law and the Human Rights Act

I said either or, take your pick.

    Evidence...
