Voting Rights: Prisoners

Voting Rights: Prisoners

Deputy Prime Minister
Written answers and statements, 17 June 2010

Rachel Reeves (Leeds West, Labour)

To ask the Deputy Prime Minister what plans he has to introduce rights to vote at elections for prisoners.

Mark Harper (Parliamentary Secretary (Political and Constitutional Reform), Cabinet Office; Forest of Dean, Conservative)

The Government are considering afresh the best way forward on the issue of prisoner voting rights.

Comment: Since when has Mark Harper been the Deputy Prime Minister? As neither the previous government nor the present government have addressed the best way forward how can the government state in all honesty that they are considering the topic afresh?

If I might make a suggestion, instead of the government talking to the oil rag (Prison Reform Trust) perhaps, they should instead be talking to the engine driver, your's truly?
