Tom Porteous makes some good points in this article.

However, it is what he does not say which exposes him and Human Rights Watch as frauds. For example, "The foreign secretary William Hague said last week that human rights should be the "irreducible core" of the UK's foreign policy". The European Convention on Human Rights lists the minimum standard of human rights for Member States of the Council of Europe and European Union. The UK is a Member State of both organisations. The European Court of Human Rights has ruled in Hirst v UK(No2), that the UK has breached convicted prisoners human rights by denying them the vote. Tory party policy prior to the General Election, in spite of Frodl v Austria 8 April 2010, was that prisoners should not get the vote. The coalition has been silent on the issue. And so has Tom Porteous and Human Rights Watch. Given what he has written and what Human Rights Watch state above, at least they are hypocrites and at worst frauds. "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing".
