In ill health...

In ill health...

Yesterday I had to ask my doctor to make a home visit as I was almost totally incapacitated. I was not surprised he diagnosed a severe chest infection. He prescribed Co-amoxiclav 500/125mg, which contains penicillin, and Paracetamol 500mg tablets. He said my blood pressure is normal, but that my heart is racing. If there is no improvement in 3 days he said I should be hospitalised.

Some improvement this morning...

  1. Every setback deserves a comeback. You'll throw it off. Wishing you well, John.

Don't concentrate on fixing the systems ills to the detriment of your own John.

    Wishing you a swift recovery.

  3. God, John, relax and be still. As still and relaxed as you can, just concentrate on your breathing. Stay relaxed for a long time, aim to be relaxed for a few days or more, completely relaxed, and play some relaxing music.

Very best wishes John, thinking of you, take care and relax always, if you get bad or have a bad turn or something, call someone, a doctor or someone, even 999, but stay relaxed and breathe

    xx

And don't worry about us ok, focus on you, completely, good luck John, thinking of you x

  5. Thank you all for your kind wishes and advice. Taking the advice on board. I know time is short, I just don't know how short.

Many years ago I wrote a poem which ended with the lines:

"Now deep in my bed I lie
and the world turns on the other side".

Mission almost accomplished. Spring will bear fruit.

Next week I am off to Leeds for a BBC Home Affairs documentary on the prisoners votes case and the UK's chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers. It should be aired in February.

Earlier this evening a judge cleaned my kitchen, whilst I gave a lesson to a student for his dissertation on prisoners votes.

The judge's view is that Scoppola v Italy is all about buying the UK some time. 6 years and 6 months is more than enough time to realise there is no legal or moral escape from Hirst v UK (No2).

Over Xmas, Phil Wheatley, former DG of NOMS emailed:

"On the prisoner votes issue I cannot see a Eurosceptic Government enacting English and Welsh legislation to give most prisoners the vote unless their feet are held to a legal fire which really hurts and the only escape is to get on with it. The current mood in the Conservative and key elements of the Labour party make votes for prisoners extremely unpopular politically. The mood in number ten appears to pay great attention to the PM's popularity ratings and he is obviously pleased with the bounce in popularity that has followed his recent tough stance in Europe".

Tomorrow, Sunday evening, the QC who is going to provide the legal fire to the feet of the government flies back from his Xmas break.

The thought of this makes me feel better already. MPs went on holiday not expecting trouble as soon as they get back :-)
