MP couple claimed £40,000 without receipts
"A married couple, both Labour MPs, claimed almost £40,000 of household expenses in a year without submitting one receipt.
Alan and Ann Keen were paid the money from the public purse even though they gave no explanation of why they needed it".
The Daily Telegraph report is stating that the Keens have done nothing wrong and that it is the lax rules which are to blame. Whilst it is accepted that the allowance rules are too lax, nevertheless this couple claimed expenses for a second home in the centre of London when their own constituency and first home is only 9 miles away from the centre of London. What the Keens have done wrong is claim expenses when 9 miles is not an unreasonable distance to commute to work every day.
This sorry couple are actually my local MPs. Still can't work out who represents our actual address - Mr or Mrs.
ReplyDeleteCharming couple - we've been asking for a pedestrian crossing on our street which is now a rat run for people escaping Ken's congestion charge. We were nicely informed by one of these MPs (tweedle dee or dum, not sure which) that someone would have to be killed before we become a priority.
Still, nice to know that nothing stands in the way of the really important job of claiming expenses. Chances are they'd still win again as they always visit all the local mosques and temples, promise lots of community grants and receive loads of postal and proxy votes, from 'community leaders' on behalf of voters who can't actually speak or read any English and so have no idea they're returning to Parliament, a couple of MPs who'll make Keir Hardie turn in his grave.
