Tory MEP Giles Chichester resigns after expenses scandal
"Whoops-a-daisy I am shown up to have made a mistake".
This must be the understatement of the year. Or, at least, it is up there with the McCanns "We've done nothing wrong".
It wasn't a mistake. It was deliberate.
To claim he did not know it was against the rules beggars belief. To argue that he did not know the rules had changed 5 years ago, is beyond belief. It was his job to know.
Now he is out of a job.
I don't think the Tories should be able to draw a line under this and just move on.
Also, I see no difference between this crook and Derek Conway. Or, Michael Martin for that matter.
A mixture of law, politics, autobiography and humour. Once described as "The Devilish Advocate" (Guardian), I do have the ability to provoke a response. Sometimes it comes from someone who uses a thought process, and sometimes from jerks usually associated with the knee.
He has only resigned from leading the Tory MEPs. He continues to be a Tory MEP milking the European Parliament system for all it's worth.
