42 days detention will breach human rights law
The government's concessions on 42-day pre-charge detention for terrorism suspects have left the legislation in breach of human rights law, the joint select committee on human rights will say today.
Given that I have already reported on terrorism legislation being used upon civilians who have got no connection with terrorists, if the law was passed how long before it is used against those who don't pay TV licence fee or council tax?
So what ? I just want my family protected, and give not a jot for anything but that.If they need 42 days then that's what I want them to have, if they need a year then let them have it.

That is they point - if 2 days is good enough for the US, it should be good enough for the US dependency that is the UK.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, we have seen the Terror Laws used against such diverse elements as a schoolgirl carrying a hockey stick and a family applying for a school placement.
He wants 'family protected' from what exactly?
All we have seen are Daily mail assertions about The Terror Threat. When we have asked, as an example, for an inquiry into 7/7 to let us test the quality of these assertions the government runs scared.
Yes a full public inquiry into 7/7 and the events leading up to it are the minimum this government can do before demanding 42days.

ReplyDeleteSturgess,
ReplyDeleteSo, if the police decided, on a whim, to lock you up for 42 days you'd be perfectly compliant?

Compliant?
On the back, legs in the air 'saying go for it Gordon'.
