Rude awakening

Rude awakening

I was dragged out of my deep sleep by Rocky's barking. Dogs bark to communicate. He was saying, rather loudly, "There's somebody out there", and I was concerned that it might disturb the neighbours so I got out of bed. I looked at the clock, it registered 3.15am. I went downstairs into the front room and curtain twitched, it was the two girls. I asked through the locked door, "What do you want?". I received the reply, "John, can you lend us some fag papers?". I could not believe what I was hearing. "No. Go away. I'm going back to bed. It's quarter past three". I returned to bed, still in a daze, my mind refusing to dwell upon it for fear of waking up properly and being more disturbed from my peaceful sleep. I was used to prisoners knocking on my cell door and begging fag papers. But not at this ungodly hour. They will probably end up in prison. And by all accounts women's prisons are more vicious than their male counterparts. They will have to learn the rules. There are limits to invading personal space. I like them. However, wrong time to be socialising. For me it was a rude awakening. If they are not careful, that's what they are heading for where they may be going. It's sad.
