Russia puts UK in bad light on human rights

Thorbjørn Jagland welcomes Russia’s decision to compensate victims of excessively long domestic judgments

Just as the UK starts withdrawing from the Council of Europe and European Union, Russia starts advancing into Europe.

Recently developments in Europe of note are the Lisbon Treaty and Interlaken Conference.

Basically, the ECtHR was threatened with closure if it did not get the necessary powers and reforms to continue which all Member States of the Council of Europe agreed upon at the Interlaken Conference.

Whereas Russia is honouring its obligations under the Convention, the UK is not.
