Yesterday afternoon I got a taxi to go and get a Christmas tree from the place I have been getting one from for the last 5 years. I remember the first one I got was 10ft. In subsequent years it was not as tall and wide, 8 or 9ft. This year, the recession has done its damage. I could only get a 5ft 6ins tree. It was like picking the best of a bad bunch. None of them looked particularly good. Branches already dying off and clipped to hide this fact. The underside already browning. I still paid £20. I came away very disappointed.
