McCanns: It is the MSM and not the internet which is guilty
It wasn't that long ago that Tony Blair gave a speech in which he blamed the feral media for his downfall. As I recall, he chose to ride the media tiger and his PR machine delivered the spin. But, there comes a time when both the public and the media get fed up of the bullshit and start voicing their opinions which do not coincide with the official line.
I don't accept this criticism from India Knight in the Sunday Times. "Madeleine McCann: You are all guilty
The public is to blame for the heartless abuse being heaped on Kate McCann. The internet has blurred the lines of news and hearsay and the result is trial by global gossip".
The McCanns decided to ride the media tiger. I think it is a bit rich for India Knight of the MSM to blame the internet for blurring the lines between news and hearsay. I seem to recall that it was Kate McCann who first contacted the media and furnished them with the hearsay of a break-in and abduction which the media then broadcast as news. Neither the Portuguese police nor the Mark Warner staff accepted the McCanns version of events as facts, and the internet was also dubious once the version had been subjected to scrutiny.
If anything, the media is guilty for accepting the McCann spin doctoring as fact and swallowing it hook, line, and sinker.
A mixture of law, politics, autobiography and humour. Once described as "The Devilish Advocate" (Guardian), I do have the ability to provoke a response. Sometimes it comes from someone who uses a thought process, and sometimes from jerks usually associated with the knee.

This is a conspiracy. It may be something like Freemasonry or it may just be a loose afiliation of lazy "journalists" and commentators who swallowed this hook-line-and sinker and now cannot row back and will thus do all they can to maintain the innocence of the MaCabres, Crazy Kete and Smarmy Gerry, nobody in the mainstream media or the wider establshment - the revolting Rowan williams, for instance - gives a flying fart about the wee girl, only for the "suffering" of the repuslive MaCabres.

The press lies to the public and when we don't swallow the lies we are accused of cynicism.
My interpretation of this piece is that it's Ms. Knight's way of airing all the rumour and speculation while distancing herself from it. She accuses the doubters of prurience, but that is her offence - motes and beams.
When I used to buy newspapers in Britain I was under the impression I was reading the news, after all, these were all from the middle and upper classes, had studied journalism or what-have-you from the best Universities in Britain, and they were paid journalists from the broad sheets. Several years later, and after travelling and living in another country, I realise now that it was more opinion than fact. Today, I KNOW that many so called journalists don't move outside their offices or homes to 'investigate'. There are many good writers, journalists and detectives on the net, and this is what angers the press. We can all express our opinions now, and we are all free to read anything we want. During the first two weeks of this case I read what the Portuguese had released and this information still has not been reported by the British media. The British public should wake up to how biased their Press really is.
Hi, John - agree absolutely. I've also been sounding off about India Knight's latest and find myself becoming way too obsessed with this case, but it's just not going away as other stories do.
