A former Assistant Chief Probation Officer, Mark Harris, who was due to begin a new job as a Director of the Parole Board, has been killed whilst on a holiday hike in the Canary Islands.
What interested me in the Guardian report, is that Mark Harris was going to be a Director of quality and standards in Parole Board decision-making. And, that this important job monitoring the responsibility of the Parole Board can be managed by a week's training. From a prisoners rights perspective, I am surprised by how little training is required. Given that the Parole Board also has a duty to protect the public, no doubt they will be reassured by the extent of training needed. A week's training would appear to be truly a weak training for the job in hand.
A mixture of law, politics, autobiography and humour. Once described as "The Devilish Advocate" (Guardian), I do have the ability to provoke a response. Sometimes it comes from someone who uses a thought process, and sometimes from jerks usually associated with the knee.
