Baby P and the fascist thugs in the blogosphere

Baby P and the fascist thugs in the blogosphere

I don't think there can be many people who were not shocked upon hearing about the horrific case of Baby P.

Over at Comment Central there is a well written and balanced piece by Theodore Dalrymple "We can't be surprised by the death of Baby P - A lethal mixture of bureaucracy, blame culture and fear of violence blinds us to the horror that is staring us in the face".

By complete contrast the misnamed Dizzy Thinks has not thought this through. When I read this comment "Death is too good for them, they deserve pain instead. They do not deserve human rights because they're not human, they're sub-human", I am reminded of Hitler's so-called justification for sending 6 million Jews into the gas chambers.

Similarly, we have the twice convicted drink driver and former BNP activist in Hull, Paul Staines, advocating vigilantism. It is just by luck that Staines did not crash into a pram killing a 17 month old baby in it. Had that been the case would he still advocate vigilantes hanging him?

had a shufti at dizzy and staines. Nice to see that neanderthals did overcome meeting modern man, and learned to type in the process. Why is it that those who most hate criminals are the keenest to join them via vigilanism? Or is the rule of law only a good thing so long as it reflects your prejudices...? Those baby killers are scumabgs, but thats no excuse for the rest of us to switch off our brains before speaking.

I didn't say I wanted to join them via vigilantism. I was pretty clear that I hoped they would suffer "accidents" in prison, which I'm sure they will, and I don't give a flying hoot about them if they do.

John, I'm rather disappointed that Godwin's Law reared it's head so fast. I'm merely expressing a very commonly held view. These people beat a 17 month old kid to death, breaking his back amongst other things. The idea that they deserve a good kicking in response is not fascist, it's simply human nature.

Oh yes, and Hitler was subhuman too.

Note: posting this from a machine logged into other Google account.

Phil: You cannot hide behind Godwin's law because the analogy is valid. First you dehumanize the subjects then deal inhumanely with them, it's a false justification. Even Hitler was human.

What they did was human conduct. We can condemn their conduct, we cannot take away the fact that they are still human and they should be treated as such.

Somehow I don't think their fellow prisoners will see it that way. Don't prisoners reserve a special kind of treatment for those found guilty of harming children? You must have encountered that attitude yourself when you were incarcerated. Fortunately though they had you to speak up for them. You did speak up for them...didn't you?

By the way, does the right to be treated as 'human' extend to the yet-to-be convicted (and therefore innocent in the eyes of the law) McCanns?
