Lockerbie bomber released on compassionate grounds

Lockerbie bomber released on compassionate grounds

Last week I blogged that Lockerbie bomber Al-Megrahi to be released next week and stated that it would be Thursday.

And now...

Today the BBC is reporting a decision has been made and that it will be announced tomorrow which is Thursday.

However, part of the deal reached with Libya was that the announcement would not be made by either country until Al-Megrahi was already back in Libya.

It's a done deal. Screw Hillary Clinton!

UPDATE:

HM Prison Greenock confirms relese but would not state the time he was released and taken off the prison's roll.

Tel: 01475 787 801
Governor: Teresa Medhurst
Deputy Governor: Martin Macdonald

UPDATE: I wonder why Mr Al-Megrahi has flown via Riyadh, Saudi Arabia?

The Guardian is reporting...

Sources close to the case expect Megrahi to be released from Greenock prison, where he has served eight years of a 27-year minimum sentence, either before or within minutes of MacAskill's announcement. The Libyan government has prepared for his transfer back to Tripoli.

The Scottish legal magazine the Firm today reported that Strathclyde police had rehearsed, taking a small convoy of police outriders and a vehicle with blacked-out windows from Greenock prison near the Clyde to Prestwick airport.

Comment: Released before announcement? A rehearsal? More like the real thing! The police have been escorting Category A High Security Prisoners for years. They do not need a rehearsal, when they move it's for real. I have been the subject of such escorts in the past. Highly professional they are too!

Q&A: Abdelbaset al-Megrahi release

Why is the Lockerbie bomber Abdelbaset al-Megrahi being released and what will happen next?

Ironside: I have already had Saudi Arabia intelligence checking out my blog.

I like to upset the Yanks.

Just wait until the story really breaks and the BBC wakes up to the fact that on security grounds they are not going to announce he will be released just to get some crank trying to blow him up. The public will be told after the event.
