Barnacle Bill: Last time I looked at your blog you had gone awol with a canoe and I removed your link from my blogroll. I have reinstated it as I notice you have come out of hiding.

A Merry Christmas to you too.

I could not get the original format of the email from last year from Latvia to upload to blogger. Therefore, I had to video it on my mobile phone and YouTube it. There is some loss of clarity, still it gets the message across.

And to you too.

James: A Merry Christmas to you. I am slowly building up the Christmas spirit and intend to put up the large Christmas tree and decorations in the next couple of days.

These posts remind me of what happens in our little part of the world. All year we ignore our neighbours, apart from an occasional grunt of recognition if we inadvertently pass in the street. But then Christmas arrives, and with it these folk whose names you know not start pushing bloody cards through the door. As not only don't we know one anothers names, we don't know the house numbers, so the cards read Happy Xmas from Tom and Freda at number 32. Problem arises when you bump into a neighbour in the street, have they sent a card ? should you thank them ? I go with a smile and avoid committing myself. The fun is finding out who did not push a card through the door, and on Christmas eve pop a really expensive one with a lovely message thanking them for being such great neighbours through their letter box. It's what Christmas is all about I feel, did you get my card John ?

comfy socks and co-op rum: Pretty accurate observation.

The card? I don't think I did...

Compliments of the season John.

Get the fire stoked up - it looks like it'll be a cold one this year.

MECS: Compliments of the season to you too.

I have already gone through 3x25kg bags of coal and need to get some more in ready for the cold spell.

The gas meter is eating up £20 notes like nobody's business! Whatever happened to the days when it used to only cost shillings?
