Gurkhas protest over right to settle in the UK
Gurkhas protest over right to settle in the UK
A judicial review is to be heard at the High Court today over a decision in 2004 that Gurkhas who retired before July 1997 were not entitled to British settlement rights as their base, now in Kent, was in Hong Kong at the time. The Government also said that some Gurkhas “lack strong ties with the country”. Other foreign soldiers in the Army have a right to settle in Britain after four years’ service anywhere in the world.

John,
I'm speechless ..... b .... y insult.
I believe that serving in the British Army automatically gives you the right to settle in this country, but unfortunately NOT the Gurhas. With every other nationality that is tied to the british army i.e. Canadians etc. all have automatic right to settle here after so many years service. I think it may be three years? Yiyiman could fill you in on this more knowledgeably as he is ex-para.
Perhaps they should all change their names to Abu Hamsa? Then they would have more right to settle here. Sad, innit?
