Madeleine: Give her the justice she deserves

The McCanns walk past the spot where they buried Madeleine...

Madeleine: Give her the justice she deserves

First, Gerry and Kate McCann said that they intended to stay in Portugal for the sake of Madeleine. That was irrational thinking. Now, they have said that they have returned to Britain for the sake of the twins. This is rational thinking, but not for the reason they have stated. It would appear that they are hoping that the government will intervene on their behalf against the state of Portugal. We already know that they are suspects in the disappearance and death of their 3 year old daughter Madeleine.

Make your own mind up whether you should take this press release with a pinch of salt. For as little as $6 a month anyone can publish their press releases. This is an interesting piece of before and after in relation to the McCanns and the changing moods of the people.

Of course the McCanns as suspects have the right to remain silent and not incriminate themselves. "Gerry McCann refused to answer 40 key questions about the disappearance of his daughter during a key interview by detectives after he was made an official suspect, it was reported today". And, the Kate McCann version of events that the police offered her a 2 year sentence for a confession to accidentally killing Madeleine displays an ignorance of the Portuguese legal system which differs markedly from our own or that in the US. Could she have sought to cut herself a deal and then become upset when the police refused to play ball? She would not have known that: "PJ HAS NO LEGAL POWERS TO SETTLE OR OFFER DEALS WITH CRIME SUSPECTS. IN FACT, NOR EVEN THE PUBLIC PROSECUTOR HAS SUCH POWERS. ONLY THE MAGISTRATE THAT JUDGES THE CASE IN A COURT OF LAW CAN DETERMINE THE PUNISHMENT /PENALTY APPLICABLE. I UNDERSTAND THIS TO BE QUITE DIFFERENT TO THE COMMON LAW JURISDICTIONS, NAMELY THE UK AND THE US".

It is understood that the McCanns were advised by their Portuguese lawyer to leave Portugal as they were likely to be arrested and charged in the near future, and that "Mr and Mrs McCann yesterday consulted Michael Caplan, QC, an expert in international criminal law who prevented the extradition of General Pinochet, the former President of Chile, to Spain. They also spoke to Angus McBride, a partner in the international law firm Kingsley Napley".

I note that the Times lawyers have covered the newspaper's arse from libel lawyers by ending its Q&A article with this statement: "All parties have strenuously denied any wrongdoing". I remember Tony Blair saying the same thing about going into an illegal war with Iraq. I am a firm believer of innocent until proven guilty. The sooner this is proven in the McCann case the sooner Madeleine will receive the justice she deserves.

Very interesting piece. Unfortunately, the link to Gerry refusing to answer 40 key questions is timed-out, so is inaccessible.

I'm afriad they may not get a 'fair trial' as the media, as usual, makes up the juries minds.

In this instance, it would appear the media have already decided they are innocent. So the concept of a fair trial is unique for the opposite reason.

Any thoughts on that nice young Mr Milliband -one of SnotQueen Gordon's favoured boys - being "supportive," that is to say in helping the repulsive McCanns avoid extradition ?

Jacqui Smith - a Redditch schoolteacher and home secretary - claims, grandly, to be satisfied with the PJ investigation but she's only a token totty in a government of simpering boys, all making eyes at Cyclops Brown. All these gay men really run things in the government and the BBC and the old media will obviously suggest war with Portugal rather than let the McCann Brand be besmirched by criminal charges.
How far do you think the government and especially the prime minister are involved in this utterly bizarre Lilliputian circus ?

liz: The link is not working at the moment, however, it is not timed out as it is only yesterday's paper. I have registered the fault with the Times, hopefully it will get fixed.

Liz: If you click on the link "Mr and Mrs McCann..." this report also contains a reference to Gerry failing to answer 40 questions.

The greatest mystery of all in this saga, is, why the media have chosen to be PR spin doctors for this pair, and why the govt is standing up for them so much. Ben Needham's family never got this much assistance, even though they'd never left him home alone.

I guess the parents weren't doctors then!

Most people seem to think being a doctor makes you immune to crime.

How they forget.. GP Dr Shipman, the mass murderer, got away with killing his patients for just that reason, I'm a doctor trust me!!

Really not sure about them as suspects, if the case can be proven and that is the main problem then fine.

Mind you that caption by them on the beach did make me laugh.

fidothedog: They should have been suspects from day one.

When I was looking for a suitable photograph to add to the post, and having it in mind the question some people are asking 'what did they do with the body?', this one leaped out at me for the same reason as you, I had to laugh...

John - thx.

Stanislav: ROFL ROFL ROFL. War with Portugal? Now that would seriously undermine the EU constitution, wouldn't it?

Well I have to admit that I have shied away from covering this one, if it turns out that they did not dispose of her and it was someone else then I would feel a tad shitty about having fired some crap at them.

Mind you as I said earlier if its them, then get em on a plane back out to Portugal and let them rot in a jail out there.

Liz: That link has now been restored.

The media should keep damn quiet till the legal process is done. It is alright for these big-shots to claim this and that and put pressure on the police like they did in Birmingham years ago.
Leave this tragic family to peace and let the law do their work.
We should all keep quiet till then.
I wrote on my blog on the 9th that the media should damn well keep quiet or else resign later if they want to be so inconsiderate.
