Watching the BBC 1 10 O' Clock News last night there was a brief mention of this story and a brief video clip, if you blinked or coughed you would have missed it. And yet, several minutes were devoted to the bridge collapse in the US which was already a couple of days old, and the death toll and devastation was nowhere near as bad as the South Asia flood disaster. I couldn't help wondering who decides what is news at the BBC, and who decides which particular stories get how much coverage? We do have a closer link politically with the States than South Asia, but still I don't feel that this should have been reflected in the BBC News coverage.
No doubt David Cameron today is wishing that Simon Heffer had got struck down with foot and mouth disease, because his article in the Daily Telegraph clearly sticks another nail in David Cameron's coffin. "While the Tory leader is building sand castles in Brittany with his family...", Gordon Brown is returning from his holiday in Dorset to deal with the foot and mouth crisis. Once again David Cameron is in the wrong place at the wrong time.
