Crime it seems does pay

Crime it seems does pay

There is something absurd about a case where the State freezes the assets of a convicted criminal said to be worth £4.5M, so that he cannot pay his legal costs and has to rely upon State funded Legal Aid. However, because the State has cut funding of Legal Aid to such an extent it is not worth a barrister's while to represent clients and they refuse to accept briefs. In this case, the judge accepted the man could not have a fair trial and dismissed the case.

That's just plain bizarre.

£175 a day - not taking into account expenses and taxes - I wouldn't do it either. It's a monstrous amount of work...
