Black Panther to die in prison

Black Panther to die in prison

"A notorious killer who kidnapped then murdered a 17-year-old heiress in the 1970s has been told he will spend the rest of his life in jail".

I am concerned that firstly our prisons are being turned into a graveyard, and secondly that the Death Penalty appears to have been re-introduced through the back door.

I don't want to enter into the rights and wrongs of sentencing, opinions regarding this or that offender, specifics of any one case, etc.

I do however think that people have the right to know, when they go into prison for any specific offence, how long they will be kept there.

I do not think there is any place, when someone is approaching the end of the term to which they were sentenced and have duly served that term, for the knee jerk, "oh fuck, the public will be outraged if we let him out, lets just throw away the key".

As you say John, death sentence through the back door, slower than the scaffold but even more failsafe - the trapdoor can never get stuck, and the rope can never be too short on the passage of time...

By the way, not a pretty photo is it, what did he do, walk into the door on his way to the interview room?

richard: I agree that re-sentencing behind closed doors is an unfair process.

The photo is an update, not in the original article, therefore I have included it. Ouch! That must have hurt. I do recall reading or hearing about the injury but it was in the 1970s and I would have to research it to refresh my memory.
