Denying prisoners the vote ‘could cost millions’

More than 3,000 prisoners are set to claim compensation if Parliament opts to maintain its ban on giving inmates the vote, under options to be outlined today.

The compensation bill could rise to many millions of pounds if the prison population of 60,000 is still denied the vote at the next general election, The Times has learnt.
