Home Secretary, Jacqui Smith, smoking a spliff

The Home Secretary, Jacqui Smith, admits to smoking cannabis. Because there is a no smoking policy in force in the Home Office, she has to pop outside for a quick spliff. The above photo was taken by a security camera outside the Home Office.

I'm not so sure about this admission of hers, I mean, isn't it getting to the point where it shows some redeeming character for a politician to have done this sort of thing?

The term 'paradigm shift' springs to mind.

I agree.

Surely, as time goes by, more and more of our politicians, judges, lawyers, doctors, nurses (ahem), police officers etc are going to have tried this sort of thing.

And while I accept that there are probably significant dangers in the frequent use of cannabis to developing adolescent minds and bodies, generally speaking it doesn't really do any harm does it?

It's only a matter of time before this issue is no longer newsworthy.

Mousie: In prison a doctor advised me to take cannabis. Then one day when I got caught with some in my possession, the adjudicating governor suggested that if I had a drug problem I should see the doctor...

It got to the point where politicians who admitted growing up as normal human beings were too frightened of the possible witch-hunt which would follow any such admission.
