Should the McCanns take a lie detector test?

Gerry and Kate McCann have decided to sue a Portuguese newspaper, Tal & Qual (translation: The Way It Is) for what they allege are libels. This case has facts, beliefs, lies and speculations. It is a fact that Madeleine is missing. "Our daughter Madeleine was snatched from her bed on May 3," said Mr McCann. "She is still missing. The police have said time and time again we are not suspects.

"These are the facts. Everything else is at best speculation and in some cases downright lies
". In spite of Gerry McCann stating that it is a fact that Madeleine was abducted, this is not true. It may be true that The McCanns have this belief that this is what happened to Madeleine, there again, it may be a downright lie that they are uttering in the hope that we will believe them. I think it is quite remarkable that the two year old twins slept right through all the comings and goings in the apartment following the hue and cry that Madeleine had been abducted. And, Kate McCann has said that the children always slept right through the night. They must be very lucky parents to have children who don't wake up during the night. In the old days, it was not unknown to give young children gin to keep them quiet. Being doctors, the McCanns would have easy access to drugs, including sedatives and tranquilisers. This might explain why the twins did not get disturbed during the night of May 3rd. It could also explain what happened to Madeleine, she may have been the victim of an accidental overdose. They could not simply call the police and explain that it was an accident. Why would doctors drug their children when they could have used the creche? Their professional careers would have been finished.

What I am suggesting is that would the McCanns submit themselves to a voluntary lie detector test? "Confirmation of Innocence
During many years of use world wide, the Polygraph has proved thousands of individuals innocent of crimes they did not commit and lies they did not tell. We can help you by testing your honesty in the only way possible, remember our advice is free. Refer to the case of Joe Steele cleared of murder, following a polygraph test by Distress Services

Unfortunately, the lie detector is no solution. While public belief in polygraphy has been promoted by tawdry TV talk shows, it remains junk science: inherently biased against the truthful yet easily passed through the use of simple countermeasures. See AntiPolygraph.org's free e-book, The Lie Behind the Lie Detector (1 mb PDF) for a thorough de-bunking.

No. The result means nothing and would reslove nothing.

Gerry has already failed one lie detector test anyway.

MECS: You noticed that! I thought he was going to pull it off and eat it. I would like to hear what some of the professionals over here think about the body language on some of the videos.

I was 100% behind the mc canns but I now have my doubts if they accidently killed their daughter they should own up tell the police where she is and save all this time wasting and money

The McCanns have offered to take a lie detector test (BUT) only if they are asked by police. The Portuguese legal system doesn't allow lie detectors in court. The McCanns obviously know this. If the McCanns want to get proactive on their alleged innocence why don't they take a test themselves. Here's a link to a company that does this http://www.polygraphs.co.uk/

I'll tell you what. Why doesn't UK child services coordinate this polygraph test so as to be more responsible to the people of Britain and not exclude the McCanns for negligence. After all the McCanns were negligent with Madeleine. The UK child services could be sued by the people of Britain if by any chance one of the McCann's twins were in future to die by negligence.
