Judge frees man after sex with 11 year old girl
"A "high-risk" paedophile who groomed and abused an 11-year-old girl on her school lunch break has walked free after a judge said the girl "welcomed sex"".
Notwithstanding that the young girl wanted sex, it was sexual abuse of a minor by an adult. I feel that the sentence passed by this judge was unduly lenient, and that the CPS should appeal for a heavier sentence.

I quite agree John. I know here in Spain it is a contentious issue as consent and resistance offered are factors which are taken into account even in the case of a minor. On the upside however Spanish judges do not have discretion to interpret the law, whatever sentence they pass must be justified to the letter of the law.
However I was under the impression that under English law consent to sex from a minor is simply a non existent concept. And that any sexual interaction by an adult with a minor is by definition non-consenting.
richard: You are right, it was not a defence to the charge, rather it was a mitigating factor in sentencing. I feel the judge erred. Had the girl been a mature 15 year old, I could have understood it.
The mother can cry all she wants, where was she when her daughter was online in a chat/flirt site at her age? What happened to parental cntrol and taking responsibility for what your children get up to?
Yes he deserves hell of a lot more than what he got, she is still a child no matter what was exchanged.
Where does a child of her age learn to do those kinds of things?
No excuses for the 20 year old, but still where was the mother whilst the little girl was playing adult. When parents enable their children unlimited access to mobile phones and the internet at such a young age, they are inviting all those sickos in.
nunyaa: I think there is a fine line between too much parental control and too little.
We used to learn those things playing mothers and fathers, and doctors and nurses.
They were both looking for the same thing, and whereas in later life it is said the age gap doesn't matter, in this case clearly it does.
very very nice! :)
