Zimbabwe's Morgan Tsvangirai seeks refuge in Dutch embassy
Morgan Tsvangirai, Zimbabwe's opposition leader, has taken refuge in the Dutch embassy in the capital Harare apparently fearing for his own safety.
The Dutch foreign ministry confirmed that the leader of the Movement for Democratic Change had spent the night in the embassy but had not requested asylum.
Apparently, South Africa, Russia and China will oppose UN Security Council resolutions to relieve the situation in Zimbabwe caused by Robert Mugabe and his Army Generals. As Annie Lennox said on the Andrew Marr show on Sunday, let's hope that Nelson Mandela will speak out and condemn the military regime posing as a democratically elected government.
Nelson Mandela flew into Britain today at the start of a star-studded series of celebrations to mark his 90th birthday.
The climax of the former South African's president's visit will be an outdoor concert in Hyde Park on Friday featuring Queen, Leona Lewis, Annie Lennox and Dame Shirley Bassey.
