Farmer who worked for free stripped of £2m estate

Farmer who worked for free stripped of £2m estate

A farmer who worked on a relative's land unpaid for 30 years in the expectation he would one day inherit the £2.1 million estate has had the property taken away from him by appeal judges.

Perhaps he should now sue the estate for his 30 years of back pay owed to him?

Very sad case - where the CA accepted that there was a strong 'moral claim', but said that such a claim could not overcome the rules on intestacy.

Should he sue for back pay? His claim would probably be limited to 6 years - Limitation Act - and then his claim would be limited to quantum meruit (effectively the value of his work - whatever that may be). Difficult.

Does this not prove that the law is a complete arsehole? (as WC Fields once said)

A complete travesty of justice. The judge must have senile dementia.
