Sarah Palin is 'the new Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan'
American conservatives have reacted with near ecstasy to the Republican convention speech by Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska, comparing John McCain's running mate with Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan.
We know McCain's had his chips. Thatcher was an old cow. Reagan a cowboy. Sarah Palin by definition must be a cowgirl. Barack as Tonto?
Barack Obama would consider charging Bush administration over Guantanamo
Joe Biden, Barack Obama’s vice-presidential running mate, has indicated that a new Democratic administration could pursue criminal charges against the Bush administration over the treatment of detainees in Guantanamo bay.
And, he more than likely will consider against it in a Nixon-like immunity. In any event, I feel a Kennedy-like assassination will stop Obama.

Margaret Thatcher was a born politician with leadership qualities. She voiced her views without the need for scriptwriters.
Mrs Palin is an enigma; a mother of five with a special needs Downs Syndrome baby. Is she a model home lovin', cookie baking mom, or a model politician of the calibre of Bush's Deputy, Ms Rice or Hillary Clinton ?
Neither it seems, both are hugely demanding roles ... she's merely good looking and good at reading scripts written by others.
Unlike Margaret Thatcher, Palin appears ingenuine; McCain acts like her 'sugar daddy'; he looks desperately pleased, a shallow gimmick.

The inhumane treatment of Guantanamo Bay prisoners is diobolical. I hope Obama wins on this issue alone. The brutality is on a par with Saddam Hussein's - certainly the same mindset - conquered people have no rights.
A relative served in Iraq; it left him deeply distressed and his troop all left the army. US troops are given to shooting first and talking second; British not allowed to shoot unless shot at !!
A hell hole for all concerned.
I wonder whether Blair will send one of his sons to Iraq ?
