PM rules out one-off fuel payment

PM rules out one-off fuel payment

Gordon Brown has confirmed that the government will not be giving consumers a one-off payment to help with rising fuel bills.

The day before yesterday my gas supply ran out and I had to activate the emergency credit because I did not have the money to purchase more gas on my gas card. Yesterday my electricity supply ran out and I was forced to use the key to obtain the emergency supply. Therefore, I did not welcome hearing the above news from Gordon Brown. Especially, as the gas alone has risen by 107% since last year.

This morning it was pissing down with rain, nevertheless I still had to go out to walk the dog and visit the cash machine. The one at the nearby Tesco Express is faulty and keeps telling me it has mis-read my card, therefore I had no option but to visit the next nearest hole-in-the-wall on Princess Avenue which entailed a walk through Pearson Park. It doesn't rain but it pours. This machine is working fine, but my card reads -£25 overdrawn. My Job Seekers Allowance has not been credited to my account. This is a bugger because I have just 41p in my pocket and another 1p in my deposit account. But, it's not all doom and gloom because I should have enough tobacco left to get me through the day, and I have enough to buy a packet of cigarette papers as the current packet is down to 10 leaves left.

Last night I put the duvet back on my bed as it felt cold and for a while I put one bar on the electric fire just before climbing into bed. This is the Autumn of our discontent.

I was amused by Gordon Brown proclaiming that there would be no "short-term gimmicks", because that is precisely what the government has done with our overcrowded prisons.

What is clear is that Alistair Darling and Gordon Brown are not singing from the same song sheet. Meanwhile, civil war has broken out within the Labour Party. This can only benefit the Tory Party. Whilst these expenses fiddling cheats fight it out, I am fighting fuel poverty. The poor and pensioners are faced with eat or heat choice. Whilst we are starving and cold because its grim up North, down South they can find £10 billion for the 2012 London Olympic Games. Perhaps, the Olympic Torch should be used to burn all MPs at the stake?

ron knee,

Brown's gross ineptitude as Chancellor, imposition of crippling stealth taxes, 'holes' in pension funds, confirmed his unsuitability as a minister, let alone 'unelected' PM.

Time the Queen called a General Election - Labour's habit of installing unsuitable unelected leaders confirms they are unfit to Govern. Couldn't organize a p .... up in a brewery without a £ million quango !

John,

'Civil war' is spin .... Clarke was filmed laughing and joking with Brown following his media 'attack'.
Testing public opinion to time appointing the SECOND unelected PM.

I hope things improve for you soon.

I am fed up of the door to door sales men trying to give me cheap gas and electric. Just had another one ring the bell!

jailhouselawyer,

I understand Brown lives rent and mortgage free in No. 11. I wonder whether he, or taxpayers, pay utility costs.

Obese Prescott used 'bulimia' as an excuse for £4,000 food expenses. He's no more bulimic than your dog !

jailhouselawyer,

The most harrowing cost for prudent pensions is Council tax.
