Tim Montgomerie and Dominic Grieve are blind to reason
I am wondering if Tim Montgomerie, one of the editors of ConservativeHome.com blog, has got his head so far up his own arse he would not be able to see a specialist blog because of all the shit?
Tim Montgomerie states: "For me the most interesting blogs are the very specialist blogs. As I mentioned yesterday, I learn most from specialist blogs like UK Polling Report, Defence of the Realm and Burning Our Money".
Jailhouselawyer's Blog is a specialist blog. I don't see Tim Montgomerie learning from it! Nor for that matter is Dominic Grieve, the shadow justice secretary, who gets a pasting in the comments section for this post: "Dominic Grieve: It's the interpretation of the Human Rights Act that's the problem - not the ECHR itself". A far better analysis is provided in The Common Law and the Human Rights Act 1998.
Tim Montgomerie and Dominic Grieve appear to suffer from the same selective blindness as witnessed by this comment from Dominic Grieve in relation to convicted prisoners and their human right to the vote: "Shadow justice secretary Dominic Grieve said many people would "question whether this is a sensible development".
He told The Daily Telegraph: "The principle that those who are in custody after conviction should not have the opportunity to vote is a perfectly rational one.
"Civic rights go with civic responsibility, but these rights have been flagrantly violated by those who have committed imprisonable offences.
"The government must allow a parliamentary debate which gives MPs the opportunity to insist on retaining our existing practise that convicted prisoners can't vote".
It is indeed the interpretation of the Human Rights Act 1998 which is the problem. And, it is Dominic Grieve's interpretation of it which is very suspect!
