Jail for Suffolk sex abuse prison officer
A prison officer from Suffolk has been jailed for three years for sexually abusing a 17-year-old in a young offenders' institute.
Former Royal Marine John Payne, 54, of Kesgrave, admitted sexual activity with a child when in a position of trust and perverting the course of justice.
Ipswich Crown Court heard the abuse took place over a four-month period.
Judge David Goodin sentencing said Payne's actions had been a "grave breach of trust".
Prosecutor John Farmer told the court Payne, who worked at Warren Hill, near Woodbridge, Suffolk, "repeatedly" engaged in sexual activity with the youth.
He said Payne had the care of the teenager and "was able to sexually abuse him at every opportunity".
Corrupt Essex detective found guilty and jailed
A former Essex detective has been jailed for two years after being found guilty of perverting the course of justice.
Robert Sloan, of Villa Road, Stanway, Colchester, had denied trying to help informant Wayne Taylor get off a charge of handling stolen vehicles in 2008.
Taylor was jailed for 18 years in 2009 for firebombing two officers' homes.
Sloan, 52, was found guilty by the jury at Southwark Crown Court following two days deliberation.
He previously told the court his investigative methods were "unorthodox" but "never corrupt".
