Eighty prisoners released early every day
"Nearly 80 prisoners a day were freed before their sentences were finished last month, swelling the total number of prisoners released early since last June to more than 18,500.
The news came as it emerged that Jack Straw, the Justice Secretary, has failed to persuade magistrates to jail fewer criminals with prisons full to capacity and running at a record high for the second week running".
