Security van makes 120 mile trip to escort prisoner 200 yards in Northampton
"A security van was sent on a 120-mile round trip to move a prisoner 200 yards to avoid breaching his human rights.
Mark Bailey, 35, was taken to a Crown Court but after a brief hearing sent immediately to the magistrates' court across the road.
Police said Bailey could not be walked across the street in handcuffs because it would breach his human rights - so a van was scrambled from 60 miles away for the 30 second journey".
I'm all for prisoners human rights, but this case highlights taking things too far. A balance needs to be struck, and here it appears this has failed. What was wrong with covering the handcuffs with a jacket and walking across the road?
A mixture of law, politics, autobiography and humour. Once described as "The Devilish Advocate" (Guardian), I do have the ability to provoke a response. Sometimes it comes from someone who uses a thought process, and sometimes from jerks usually associated with the knee.

Perhaps the prisoner or his Plod guard did not want to be seen holding hands with another man in public?
