Live pigs are being blown up as part of a series of government terrorism experiments at Porton Down, the government's secret military research laboratory.
Expenses fiddling MPs with their snouts in the troughEighteen pigs wrapped in protective Kevlar blankets were blasted in a bid to help scientists understand more about the effects of bomb blasts on victims.
The animals were placed less than three yards from an explosive. Before being blown up, tubes were inserted into their blood vessels and bladders, and their spleens were removed.

Everything to be said for blowing up dodgy MPs - after all, they're the ones who start these wars.
But not pigs. I like pigs. They are intelligent and clean and amiable (and look a little like my English bull terrier). Even the most morally unsound pig in the world is better than a politician.
On with the Kevlar, Mr Straw. You're first. The rest of you: form an orderly queue.
