Hull declares civil war on uncrowned King Gordon Brown
During the English Civil War, Hull became strategically important because of the large arsenal located there. Very early in the war, on 11 January 1642, the king named the Earl of Newcastle as governor of Hull while Parliament nominated Sir John Hotham and asked his son, Capt. John Hotham, to secure the town at once.[5] Sir John Hotham and Hull corporation declared support for Parliament and denied Charles I entry into the town.[5] Charles I responded to these events by besieging the town.[5] This siege helped precipitate open conflict between the forces of Parliament and those of the Royalists.[5]

Council condemns the ethos of ‘creeping privatization' which seems to pervade the Labour Party and calls upon the Leader of the Labour Opposition to stand up to Gordon Brown and defend public services in Kingston upon Hull.
See post below for creeping bullshit: Is Hull City Council to privatise the sports and leisure?
