Is Hull City Council to privatise the sports and leisure?

Is Hull City Council to privatise the sports and leisure?

A little birdie whispered into my ear today that if I wanted a real story I should check out the LibDem controlled council's secret plans to privatise all the sport and leisure facilities. Apparently, this goes against election promises. Whilst the Council has stated it is committed to improving the sports and leisure facilities, there is no mention of privatisation. If this was to occur, I suspect that the public would have to pay through the nose to enjoy themselves. I have left a message on Denis Healy's answerphone for him to contact me in relation to this story.

Sport and leisure centres

Hull City Council manages and operates a wide range of facilities suitable for ages and abilities. First class facilities are available for casual and club users. We have swimming pools, multi-purpose sports halls (Woodford and Ennerdale Leisure Centres and Endeavour Sport Centre), the Costello athletic stadium and an ice rink.

We also have outdoor all weather pitches suitable for hockey, football and general training purposes.

UPDATE: @105

Council condemns the ethos of 'creeping privatisation' which seems to pervade the current Administration and calls upon the Leader of the Council to stand up and defend council frontline staff and publicly delivered accountable services in Hull.

UPDATED UPDATE: Denis Healy phoned me back and stated that he was not aware of any such plans, however, he did say he actually wasn't on the council himself.

This is an ongoing debate, isn't it, this privatization. Depends on how good the council is I would have thought.
