Has Clarence Mitchell breached the Official Secrets Act?
Has Clarence Mitchell breached the Official Secrets Act?
Following on from this post yesterday. And, the questions posed to Clarence Mitchell on Channel 4, which I posted in an update, and it has to be said that Clarence Mitchell was less than straight with his reply.
When, where, and how, did the McCanns become aware that they were under electronic surveillance by the Portuguese police? Clarence Mitchell would have become aware of this as Head of the Media Monitoring Unit when he was seconded to the Foreign Office because he was working in the employ of the British government. It is possible that MI6 informed him, to be careful. In any event, by informing the McCanns of information which he had received as a civil servant, and he would have had to sign The Official Secrets Act, he has breached that Act. So, not only has he perverted the course of justice, there is a second charge to face.
Clarence, are you still claiming you jumped because it is looking increasingly likely that you were pushed?
Sky News are reporting that the McCanns could have disposed of Madeleine in a pet crematorium.

I saw this and thought of the McCann's media feeding frenzy.

Being serious for a moment. I dont think it really matters if he has or not. The McCanns are using anyone with power or anyone that shows a perverse amount of greed to join their clan.
Normal people are not interested if one or the other are doing this or that. They just want to know what happened to Madeleine.
The media and the McCanns have played everyone for their own reasons. I would imagine that the powers that be are so scared to challenge the McCanns, Whether or not the McCanns had anything to do with the disappearance on May 3.
Clarence Mitchell comes across as ignorant as the rest of the McCann fan club. The only sure thing is that he will be very well off.
I do not think this 'find Madeleine appeal' will ever stop even though the gravy chain is sure to end.
Mitchell has for sure bent the rules, whether anyone has the balls to do anything is another matter. With Branson on board everyone within the camp must feel very safe.
The McCanns, GP's, freinds in high places and celebs on their side are sure to walk free.
I guess Mitchell will too.
fidothedog: I don't know who has the sickest sense of humour, you or me, but I found it funny. And, I can relate to the media frenzy aspect of it to the McCann case.
alexinnorfolk: I think it does matter. I would like to see this "perfect crime" scenario fall flat on its face.
He has clearly been working for them when he was supposedly working for the government...

And it is strange that within days of his arrival this story of bugging comes out.
No doubt the McCanns will have an answer for everything.... except why they are avoiding answers the police questions of course....
I think that there is far too much speculation in the media and in your blog about the Madeleine McCann case.
This is most unfortunate.
Would you please show restraint and urge your readers to do the same.
I thank you.
Best wishes to you and all your readers.
Philip
How can you say that. The main story is that a child has gone missing. How, no-one knows.
What we do know is that the parents are suspects and should be treated that way along with all their merry men. Not treated like Robin Hood!!
The perfect crime? Looks that way.
Where were all the "Philips" of this world when Robert Murat was being slated left right and centre. Didn't see much indignation then from the moral majority who are now whinging about trial by media. Is Philip short for Philomena?
Richard is right, the differance now is that the McCanns exploited the media and the normal person. Now that has backfired they appeal for our understanding!
The normal Joe would never be able to afford the legal help they are getting.
I think people are sick of their faces and their jibbering family and friends. They may be innocent,
but as I have said before. This is not about them, its about Madeleine.
Maybe a balanced approach is needed. So lets start with the McCann party and get a grip.
Dear Richard,
No, Philip is not short for Philomena. Nor am I the moral majority or whatever else you wish to label me as.
I am just Philip, a lone voice.
Had I known of Murat or this blog before, I would have certainly spoken about all this speculation before.
But I have only recently developed an interest in this topic...and have been astounded by the speculation and hogwash surrounding the matter.
I am sorry if my distaste for speculation masquerading as fact offends you or anyone else. But my view is correct...and hopefully one or two readers will understand it.
Very best wishes.
God bless you all.
Philip
Don't think my comment was particularly speculative Philip, just mentioned that it seems a shame Murat got a bit of a raw deal from the press. It's not as if he's been charged with any crime after all! Still maybe some altruistic record mogul will stump up a few quid to re-establish his good name.
And...as Dave Allen used to say Philip, "may your god go with you"
Dear Richard,
I have not called your Murat statement speculative. I was referring to my original comment:
"I think that there is far too much speculation in the media and in your blog about the Madeleine McCann case.
This is most unfortunate.
Would you please show restraint and urge your readers to do the same."
I raised the point because too much speculation obscures the truth and leads to confusion and harm.
You are right about Mr. Murat getting a raw deal, of course. Utterly disgraceful.
May God bless him, poor Madeleine, and all of us.
Philip
