Madeleine: Spin doctor to act as PR for the spin doctors McCann
The former government spin doctor, Clarence Mitchell, has today resigned from his job as head of the Media Monitoring Unit, within the Central Office of Information, to start work tomorrow morning for the McCanns as their official spokesman. "Mitchell spent a month in Praia da Luz in the early days of the campaign to find Madeleine after her disappearance on May 3. He was sent out by the Government on 'consular assistance grounds' and was the architect of the McCanns' visit to meet the Pope and a tour which took in Spain, Germany and Morocco". I can see the book publishers and film companies lining up for this story.
Why would a man like Clarence Mitchell leave a comfortable job with the government and a nice pension to work for suspected child killers? Ok, so Richard Branson and his business associates also support suspected child killers, and he will be getting paid a large salary. This is not about finding Madeleine. This is all about Gerry and Kate McCann's public image. If it was all about Madeleine, the McCanns would not have swapped the roles as medical doctors to become spin doctors. And now, a third spin doctor has joined the firm. If the McCanns were interested in Madeleine they would have told the truth in the first place, and the truth requires no spin because it stands up on its own merit. However, the McCanns decided instead to spin a pack of lies. Between them they are suspected of having killed their 3 year old daughter Madeleine and disposing of her body on their last day of a holiday in Portugal.
The McCanns are not the Posh and Becks of Rothley in Leicestershire. In prison terms they are nonces. The lowest of the low. They have not become infamous because he is a world class footballer and she used to be a singer in a girl band. Their infamy has arrived through child neglect and/or child abandonment, whilst they went out for meals and drink sessions with friends, leaving the children home alone, and surprise, surprise, one ends up going missing. They claim that a paedophile abducted Madeleine. The Portugese police, and FBI, suspect the McCanns killed and disposed of her body. The English police, well, we don't know what they think yet because the case has not been handed to their jurisdiction. But, according to a McCann spokesperson, the Social Services in Leicestershire have decided, after an hour's investigation, that the 2 year old twins are not at risk. Personally, I would prefer it if any statement was to be made by the Social Services that they made the official statement themselves and not through a relative or friend of the McCanns.
"Meanwhile, according to Portuguese press today, the McCanns have reneged on their promise to return to Portugal if requested by refusing to go back voluntarily to the Algarve for further questioning. They now say they will only go back if forced to legally". This from the couple who claimed that they have got nothing to hide. First they hid in Portugal to escape the English authorities, then they fled back to Britain to escape the Portuguese authorities. Why don't they stop running and answer the 66 questions which the Portuguese police feel they need to answer to clear them from any blame? Kate McCann failed to answer 40 questions and Gerry McCann failed to answer 22 questions.
It doesn't matter how much whitewash Clarence Mitchell applies to the stones unturned the blogosphere will continue to turn them over in the search for the truth.

Using words in order to alter emphasis can have a dramatic effect. Another way of looking at this is that: Madeleine is the victim of a heinous crime and the focus should remain on finding her body.
Alistair Campbell never stopped Tony Blair becoming unpopular. Thanks to his spin doctors, he went from being the most popular British PM, to being the most unpopular. Quite how does Clarence M think he can brainwash the British public? It just won't wash. All that this case shows is that the British political and media establishment have nothing in common with the man on the omnibus anymore. Eventually this case will go to trial, and we'd have direct information on what really happened. It's really creepy that Mitchell has just said on Radio 5 live that he's being paid by some rich benefactors of this ASBO family. No wonder all decent Brits are emigrating to whatever country would have them.

Philomena McCann is a teacher with Highlands Council and she claims with dread regularity that it is fine to leave three infants unattended in a foreign country while the parents go off on the piss. Even if we accepted that this is what happened it is grossly irresponsible and not something a teacher should publicly, repeatedly endorse as being commonplace and responsible behaviour. No other Highland Council employee would get away with this level of constant, controversial public exposure.
If we look at the reality rather than the McCann Abduction spin there is a Highlands teacher, with no legal qualification or standing, rebuking, on an international stage, the law enforcement and judicial agencies of a European democracy. Philo has repeatedly pointed to her job as some kind of validator of her status as international jurist and child welfare expert. Can someone else complain to Highlands Council ?
Technically of course this conduct is not part of her job description and so Mr Fyfe is correct in what he says but any other employess -teacher or social worker, for instance - would have been spoken to by now. There is a contractual obligation not to take on outside employment - and with her Team McCann trips to Portugal and her paid interviews this is exactly what McCann has been doing - and her fishwife caterwauling at lawful authorities and media organisations cannot help but bring her formal employers into disrepute. Brother Righteous John McCann was sounding off in his smug I-Know-Gordon-Brown way on Radio Scotland news. A pharmaceuticals rep by trade, he was disputing the -reported- PJ and Birmingham Forensic Laboratory evidence as though he were a professor emeritus of jurisprudence. The BBC broadcast his guff as though 'twere fact.

Anon 11:07 is probably echo-ing the thoughts of many Portuguese people:- They must investigate upto the very end, the bottom line is that they need to find the truth from all the facts. It is Portugal that must be responsible for this case, after all, it all happened here. The PJ must be exempt and have the permission to do what they see fit, and in so doing, dignify Portugal.

Blogging alone may not be the only means to resist what is happening but it is the internet which played a pivotal role in the fall of the former Soviet Union. At that time, the internet was in its infancy and people were able to communicate in/out of the USSR; so when push came to shove politically, it did not take a very large push to push the whole lot over.

Secondly, when Gerry went to the US he had hoped to speak to the FBI but they refused to meet him, which I got from some report but I cannot remember where off hand, which says a lot about their not buying the abduction theory put out by the McCanns. Even George Bush would not meet him and left it to his wife to speak to him. That's two snubs he got on his US trip.

I don't intend to be dismissive of the internet dialogues surrounding this or anything else but by the very profusion of voices there is a dilution of any common purpose- which may, as you say, have aided Comrade Gorbachev's reforming position and the dialogue takes place in a milieu ablaze with distraction; this is not political pamphleteering, nor does it forge agit-prop groupings and endeavours; significantly it is usually a solitary pursuit impelled by who knows what ? It would be impossible to be precise about the tenor of comment online about Team McCann but an educated guess would be that it is running at more than fifty-to-one against. Lenin in Zurich is a bit of a marathon but there are some very intersting facts contained therein: the most illuminating is that Lenin understood how to make revolution. Once war happened, it took just a handful of well-placed people in key towns and cities to react against the suffering and revolution occurred. This time it worked because the seeds had been sown.
It took just a handful of people, who ripe for the picking, could be steered against the intelligentsia and the monarchy, to create an order which would last for 70 years or more.
